As mentioned previously, many working adults are pursuing online degrees ona a part time basis. It's not easy. Going back to school as an adult can be difficult especially when trying to juggle adult life, responsibilities and all that comes with it. Most adults are quite busy. Family, work and community activities keep many of us going at a rapid pace. We have financial obligations, which can make it difficult to go back to school. Getting a bachelor degree online is however more realistic for many adults than trying to attend a traditional "on campus" degree program. It is common for online schools to offer various amounts of "asynchronous" learning. This means you wouldn't have to show up at any specific time or place. Class fits into your schedule and not vice versa. Many programs that have a bachelor degree online allow you to take accelerated programs. These accelerated programs can often be completed in about two years. This wil hopefully reduce the total educational costs and minimizes the duration of school will hopefully disrupt your life less. One of the nice advantages of getting a bachelor degree online is that many online programs are built around adult learning principles. Many recognize that adults that go back to school are often disciplined and motivated. They are there because they want to be. They have specific goals, and they certainly don't want to waste their money or time. Many adult students bring life and work experience with them that they have picked up by working for a number of years. Often they can regard instructors as peers who have particular expertise and are not as likely to be intimidated by their professors. Many adults are experienced independent learners. They are skilled in research and assimilating what they need to know. Adults often learn and work well in teams or groups. This is a significant challenge for online programs (no face to face group interaction), but most programs are designed to work with the situation. Many programs are quite advanced and creative with technology, IM (instant messaging), forums, chat sessions, teleconferences, etc. to simulate group interaction. If students are located in reasonable proximity, some programs student groups get together for real face-to-face on occasion to reinforce group learning. Getting a bachelor degree online is a more reasonable choice for many adults than traditional in person attendance. By applying principles of adult learning, online educational programs have created a great way for many adults to complete a college education.
